Developmental Assets Overview
Thursday, May 13, 2010
1:45 to 3:45 pm

Presented by Nichole Thorne
"The Developmental Assets are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. Because of its basis in youth development, resiliency, and prevention research and its proven effectiveness, the Developmental Assets framework has become the single most widely used approach to positive youth development in the United States. Studies of more than 2.2 million young people consistently show that the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive. Assets have power for all young people, regardless of their gender, economic status, family, or race/ethnicity, and are better predictors of high-risk involvement and thriving than poverty or being from a single-parent family." Story as a Road Map
Friday, May 14, 2010
9:15 to 10:15 am

Presented by Kathy Kellogg
Our lives are stories that when strung together create the road map of our lives. A past experience can provoke multiple interpretations but the one to which we give the most meaning speaks pointedly about the next place we are going. This workshop will be exploring the power behind our stories of the past year; to honor our own spiritual thread weaving a pattern for new growth and to share the common weave that binds the whole group together. What does your story have to say to you? Where is your road map taking you?

Saturday, May 15, 2010
9:15 to 11:15 am

Presented by Linda Reppond
Have you noticed in your community that there are one or two churches that seem to be drawing in tons of families?  What is it that we can learn from them?  Rev. Linda Reppond researched a number of traditional and evangelical churches whose family ministries are thriving, to learn what they are doing and how they are doing it.   In this workshop, we
will discuss single parent families; young parents with young children, non-traditional families, older parents with families, and more.  As we begin to understand what each market segment needs and what they get excited about, and we will look at program and marketing strategies that draw them in.
